How to Apply Butyl Tape Correctly

Master peel, press, and roll technique for a watertight seal on gutters, windows, and roof seams every time.

The three rules of a perfect seal

  1. Clean — dirt and grease are the enemy of adhesion.
  2. Overlap — 50mm minimum at every joint and corner.
  3. Pressure — roll or hand-press until the tape conforms to the surface.

Common mistakes

  • Stretching the tape while applying — causes lift at edges.
  • Peeling all backing at once — leads to wrinkles and air pockets.
  • Skipping the roller — finger pressure isn't enough on metal seams.

Surface compatibility

FasVix tape bonds to metal, wood, glass, fiberglass, vinyl, and masonry. Porous surfaces should be clean and as dry as practical.

Temperature range

Rated −10°C to 80°C. In cold weather, warm the tape slightly in your hands before applying for best tack.

Removing butyl tape

Use a plastic scraper, warm soapy water, and adhesive remover for residue. It's designed for strong bonds — removal takes patience.
