How to Stop Gutter Leaks with Butyl Tape
A step-by-step guide to sealing leaking gutter joints with FasVix aluminium butyl tape — fast, waterproof, no caulk gun needed.
Why gutters leak at the seams
Most gutter leaks happen at joints and end caps — not along the full run. Water finds the smallest gap, freezes, expands, and the leak gets worse every season.
What you need
- FasVix Aluminium Standard Butyl Tape (50mm × 5m)
- Clean cloth and optional isopropyl alcohol
- Scissors and a hand roller (or flat piece of wood)
Step-by-step
- Clean the joint — remove debris, moss, and old sealant. Dry is best; the tape also bonds to slightly damp metal.
- Cut the tape — allow enough length to cover the joint plus 50mm overlap on each side.
- Apply firmly — peel the backing progressively, press onto the seam, and roll flat to push out air bubbles.
- Test — pour a bucket of water above the repair and check for drips.
When to call a professional
Butyl tape is ideal for temporary and maintenance repairs. If your gutter is sagging, rusted through, or pulling away from the fascia, schedule a permanent fix.
How much tape do you need?
